Subtotal Privacy policy

Privacy policy

Subtotal is a subscription tracker for iPhone and iPad. Everything you enter stays on your device and, if you have iCloud turned on, in your own iCloud account. There is no Subtotal server, no account to sign up for, and nothing in the app phones home.

What the app collects

Personal informationnone

Network requests made by the apponly iCloud sync, through Apple

The subscriptions you add, their prices, plans and renewal dates, are stored in a local database on your device. The catalog of services and logos ships inside the app, so searching it never leaves your phone.

iCloud sync

If iCloud is on for Subtotal, your ledger is stored in your private iCloud database so it shows up on your other devices. Apple handles that storage under your Apple Account and Apple’s privacy policy. The app’s maker has no access to it. Turn iCloud off for Subtotal in Settings and the ledger stays only on the device.

Notifications

Renewal reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. Nothing is sent to a server to deliver them. You can decline the permission or turn reminders off in the app at any time.

Export

You can export your ledger as a CSV file. Where that file goes after that is up to you.

This website

This site has no analytics, no cookies, and loads fonts from its own files rather than a third party. The “build yours” tool keeps your picks in your browser’s local storage, on your device only; clearing site data removes them. The host, Vercel, keeps standard server access logs to run the service.

Children

Subtotal is not directed at children under 13 and collects no information from anyone.

Changes

If any of this changes, the date at the top changes with it, and anything material will be called out in the app’s release notes.
